- Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC)
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent AND passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment (prior to March 1, 2007) OR GACE Parapro Assessment
- Alternatively, 60 semester or 90 quarter hours from a PSC‑approved college or university
- Preferred:
Experience in a licensed child‑care environment.
- Knowledge of child development
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Effective interpersonal skills

- Ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools
- Provide support to the instructional program in an assigned classroom; assist in supervision, care, and instruction of special‑needs students in regular and special‑education classrooms, community settings, and during non‑classroom time.
- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the supervising teacher’s direction to reinforce IEP goals and objectives.
- Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed (diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication, etc.).
- Administer tests, homework, and make‑up work.
- Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene, grooming, community accessibility, and other daily needs as assigned.
- Confer with teachers on a regular basis to evaluate special‑education student progress and/or implement IEP objectives.
- Implement and collect data under the supervising teacher’s guidance and behavioral plans designed by IEP teams.
- Monitor special‑education students in classroom, field trips, community skills, lunchroom, playground, and during life‑enrichment activities to provide a safe learning environment.
- Perform record‑keeping and support functions (data collection, student files, attendance logs, etc.) to support teachers.
- Provide instructional support under the supervision of the assigned teacher in individual and group activities (math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.).
- Respond to emergency situations (injured students, fights, behavior problems, etc.) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Provide crisis‑intervention principles and procedures.
- Assist with monitoring duties (hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, bus duty) and ensure appropriate student conduct, escorting students to designated activity areas.
Stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach, talk, hear, manipulate tools, lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. Operate a motor vehicle as part of duties.
Vision: close, distance, and color vision. Experience a broad range of ambient temperature and humidity. Potential hazards include working with electricity, heat, noise‑producing machinery, elevated equipment, and chemicals. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with specific disabilities.
