Job Summary

SUMMARY:

The Universal Banker I combines the roles of a teller and seller to provide exceptional service to both members and potential members. You will serve as a knowledgeable resource, assisting with a wide range of financial needs, including account openings, transactions, loans, and other credit union services. By building strong relationships, you’ll recommend appropriate products, resolve issues, and ensure a seamless, positive experience.

Responsibilities
  • Greet members in a welcoming manner and ensure they feel valued and connected to Georgia’s Own Credit Union, whether in person, over the phone, or digitally.
  • Receive and process financial transactions including deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, loan/credit card payments and loan advances, issuing savings/cashier’s checks, and redeeming savings bonds.
  • Maintain a balancing record in accordance with teller balancing standards.
  • Handle problems, complaints, and special situations in compliance with Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks such as balancing ATM, executing branch capture, completing branch recaps, maintaining member accounts, processing night depository transactions, and acting as the vault teller.
  • Operate all branch technology and systems, including ATMs, Cash Recyclers, Debit Card Instant Issue, Check Scanning, ITMs, and Glory Teller Machines.
  • Support branch operational ratings and corporate audits while complying with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Open and close Consumer and Business Membership accounts.
  • Help members with account maintenance and address membership concerns or problems.
  • Notarize documents when authorized.
  • Process loan applications through the appropriate system(s) and notify members of loan decisions.
  • Review documentation, deliver, and witness signing of loan documents.
  • Run teller cashbox as needed for teller transactions.
  • Assess each member’s financial needs through consultative questions and recommend deposit products such as checking, savings, IRAs, CDs, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal experts to provide creative solutions to members’ needs, resolving issues and improving overall financial well‑being.
  • Document member interactions and financial needs in the IRM system, ensuring timely follow‑up.
  • Educate members on available services and explain the credit union difference and benefits.
  • Adopt a consultative approach to lending, identify suitable loan products, gather member information, and submit accurate documentation in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain a follow‑up plan in the IRM system for loan status communication.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance universal banking, customer service, and compliance skills.
  • Ensure all financial transactions and loan applications adhere to operational procedures, regulatory standards, and risk management protocols.
  • Collaborate with branch team members to improve efficiency, increase member satisfaction, and maintain a high standard of service while supporting operational and safety procedures.
  • Provide inbound and outbound telephone services, including transactions, information dissemination, problem resolution, and product/service suggestions.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma and equivalent years of experience;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in a financial branch environment or comparable retail sales environment.
  • Availability to provide coverage at other branches when necessary and to work a Saturday rotation schedule.
  • Strong communication skills in writing and speaking at all levels of the Credit Union.
  • Experience with the loan application process and standard internal policies and procedures.
