Job Description
Allen County Job & Family Services offers internships that provide a hands‑on training experience throughout the various departments of the Agency. Interns will work directly with our team to understand the various programs and everyday operations of the Agency. They will have the opportunity to develop stronger organizational, communication and time‑management skills.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Flexible)
Pay$18.00 – $19.00 per hour based on level of education
Expected Internship Duration6 months (may be renewed as appropriate). Regular/predictable attendance is necessary.
This paid internship is a planned and structured work experience that provides youth various opportunities for career exploration and skill development. Individual must meet youth program eligibility requirements for this funded internship/learning opportunity; youth program ages are 18‑24 years old. Applicants will be screened for youth program eligibility.
Income Maintenance Intern- Serves as intern for public assistance program departments (food assistance, cash assistance, medical, etc.)
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Assist clients by providing information concerning public assistance programs
- Refer clients to appropriate office or unit
- Answer phones and return customer inquiry calls
- Connect callers with appropriate staff
- Process agency mail for delivery to Post Office
- Assure appropriate postage
- Scan documents into the agency document imaging system
- Complete routine paperwork, general clerical duties, and other duties as assigned (e.g., light typing, data retrieval from PC)
- Copy, assemble, and print agency documents and information packets
- Assist in obtaining computer matches in system to verify employment, earned income, and unearned income
- Prepare and send subpoenas to places of employment
- Process and prepare mail for agency purposes
- Prepare over payment letters to be sent out
- Conduct address verification
- Complete routine paperwork, clerical duties, and other duties assigned
- Scan in documents to keep system updated
- Assist investigations unit on daily basis
- Serves as an intern for social service programs (Non‑Emergency Transportation, Publicly Funded Child Care)
- Assist with necessary paperwork and data entry on clients
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Assess client needs and make appropriate referrals to the correct unit
- Maintain detailed and accurate records
- General clerical duties and other duties as assigned
- Assist with job postings on all relevant platforms
- Act as the front‑line contact person for applicants
- Schedule interviews
- Manage applicant documentation
- Assist with office administration
- Scan confidential client documents
- Currently in final year of post‑secondary education, pursuing a degree in business, HR, marketing, or related field, OR a recent graduate
- Exceptional computer skills
- Strong administrative and document management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Willingness to learn
