Compensation & Schedule

Compensation: $22.96 per hour. Full‑time.

Responsibilities
  • Requires considerable knowledge of correctional workshop operating policies and procedures of the Ohio Penal Industries (OPI) shop.
  • Oversees work of incarcerated individuals assigned to the OPI workshop and/or engaged in service delivery.
  • Provides security and custody of incarcerated individuals.
  • Trains incarcerated individuals in proper work methods, equipment operation and safety practices in the assigned area.
  • Enforces institution rules and regulations.
  • Maintains control of supplies, equipment, and tools (issues and records daily tool and chemical usage, inventory supplies).
  • Assigns and reviews work (schedules incarcerated individuals; monitors and evaluates work performed and completes quality control check).
  • Ensures quality control specifications of products.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports of workshop activities.
  • Inputs data into manufacturing system as assigned, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
  • Oversees equipment maintenance (schedules routine and preventative maintenance) and/or workshop cleaning.
  • Escorts and/or transports incarcerated individuals.
  • Oversees shipping, receiving, storage and inventory of products and materials.
  • Prepares and submits reports.
  • Completes daily and month‑end inmate payroll, month‑end Earned Credit report, inmate performance evaluations (annual and special), and weekly inspection report.
  • Performs other related duties and security functions.
  • Attends in‑service trainings.
  • Works on special projects and committees.
  • Assists with ACA (institutional and OPI) files.
  • May be utilized in any other OPI shop due to staff shortage or extenuating circumstances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Minimum of 18 months of training or experience in providing work direction to employees or a work crew.
  • Minimum of 3 months of training or experience in employee training and development.
  • For positions assigned to asbestos abatement program: completion of asbestos building inspection initial course, asbestos management planner initial course, and asbestos abatement project supervisor initial course per EPA regulations (AHERA).
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.
