Project Overview

Sheakley is seeking an experienced Lead Safety Manager to support a long-term Google data center construction project in Lima, Ohio
.

This is a strong opportunity for a safety professional who wants consistent, long-term work on a high-profile critical infrastructure project. The scope includes the installation of large-diameter pipe systems within an active data center construction environment involving heavy equipment, excavation, crane activity, rigging operations, hot work, and multiple trade partners working simultaneously.

The Lead Safety Manager will serve as a key safety leader on-site, providing daily oversight, driving OSHA compliance, supporting field leadership, and helping ensure safe execution across all phases of construction.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will provide hands‑on safety leadership across heavy construction and utility‑related activities, including:

  • Leading daily safety oversight for active construction operations
  • Conducting job‑site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
  • Monitoring OSHA compliance and project‑specific safety requirements
  • Supporting excavation, trenching, and large‑diameter pipe installation activities
  • Overseeing rigging, crane, lifting, and equipment movement operations
  • Reviewing hot work permits, fire prevention controls, and safe work practices
  • Delivering site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training
  • Partnering with field supervision to identify and correct hazards in real time
  • Investigating incidents, near misses, and corrective actions
  • Maintaining safety reports, documentation, inspection records, and compliance logs
  • Promoting a proactive, field‑driven safety culture across contractors and trade partners
Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • OSHA 30 Certification required
  • Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience
  • Experience supporting large‑scale construction or industrial projects
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety compliance
  • Experience with excavation, trenching, underground utilities, or pipe installation preferred
  • Knowledge of rigging, crane safety, and lifting operations
  • Experience overseeing hot work operations and permit controls
  • Ability to work independently in a contractor environment
  • Strong field presence, communication skills, and leadership ability
  • Ability to work 50-60 hours per week, Monday through Saturday
  • Available to start ASAP
Ideal Background

The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy civil, industrial, utility, infrastructure, or large‑scale construction environments. This role is best suited for a safety professional who is comfortable being highly visible in the field, working directly with superintendents and trade leaders, and managing safety expectations in a fast‑paced, multi‑contractor job site.

Experience with data centers, pipe installation, excavation, crane operations, rigging, hot work, and contractor safety management is highly preferred.
