Bon Secours – Mercy Health’s St. Ritas Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant with expertise in Cardiothoracic Surgery for a locum-to-permanent position.

Position Overview:
This versatile role involves providing comprehensive clinical and surgical support in a busy cardiothoracic surgical setting. The PA will operate within a dynamic environment, contributing to pre- and post-operative patient management, assisting in the operating room, and participating in inpatient and outpatient care. The position is initially locum coverage with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in cardiovascular, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, including open heart procedures, thoracotomies, and vascular interventions.
- Conduct pre-operative physical exams and evaluate patient histories for surgical readiness.
- Remove sutures and perform wound care.
- Assist surgeons intraoperatively with various procedures.
- Perform chest tube insertions, thoracentesis, and other bedside procedures.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests to support clinical decisions.
- Write and manage prescriptions as authorized.
- Conduct inpatient rounds, monitor patient progress, and coordinate care plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with active licensure.
- Extensive experience in cardiothoracic, thoracic, or vascular surgery, including open heart procedures.
- Proficient in surgical assisting, including assisting in OR settings and performing bedside procedures.
- Strong understanding of Epic EMR or similar documentation systems.
- Ability to work independently with supervision available in the OR and clinic.
- Flexibility to work scheduled hours, on-call shifts, evenings, and weekends.
- Excellent critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Duration:
July 18-25 and December 25 (additional coverage needs may be discussed). - Clinical hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. - On-call responsibilities: approximately 7-10 days per month, evenings, and weekends.
- Patient volume varies; candidate must be adaptable to fluctuating caseloads.
- Estimated credentialing timeframe: 90-120 days.
- Documentation system:
Epic EMR. - Trauma Level: Level 2 designated trauma center.
- Compensation: $17.16 per hour during locum phase; opportunities for permanent employment with competitive salary and benefits.
