The Prison Education Specialist at Allen Correctional in Lima, Ohiowill serve as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility warden, educational staff, and administrationat the respective facilities, engage with the needs and missions ofthe program, help to develop and implement certificate programs,and orient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in acorrectional setting and working with the diverse needs of incarcerated adult learners and correctional facility staff.

The hourly pay rate for this position is $30.51 and has amaximum of 28 hours per week.

• Serve as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility warden, educational staff, and administrationat Allen Correctional Institution
• Assess instructional needs and opportunities within and specific to Allen Correctional Institution
• Collaborate to develop and implement certificate programs withSCC department chairpersons and deans to meet the incarceratedperson’s post-secondary educational needs in correctionalsettings
• Orient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in acorrectional setting and working with the diverse needs of incarcerated adult learners and correctional staff
• Oversee security clearance process and assist in resolvinginstructor needs when needed
• Supervise the assistant coordinator in handling day-to-day operational activities
• Oversee support services for incarcerated adult learners suchas placement testing, academic advising, registration, textbooks,tutoring, and attendance
• Ensure all policies and regulations of Allen Correctional Institution, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC ), and SCC are followed and enforced
• Maintain records that conform to DRC and SCC
• Provide accurate and on-time reports to Allen Correctional Institution, SCC, and DRC
• This position is also responsible for overseeing all facilities and equipment related to the delivery of SCC programs at Allen Correctional Institution to ensure that applicable policies of SCCand DRC are followed, most particularly security
• This position is in continual contact with the Director of Advanced Job Training

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 1 year of professional work experience in acorrectional, law enforcement, or higher education setting required; previous work experience in a supervisory role and/or aneducational setting preferred
• Ability to exercise leadership for education program development in the unique and complex environment of a correctionalfacility required
• Current working knowledge of and successful professional experience working within the criminal justice system required
• Professional communication skills to include but not limited tooral and written required
• Ability to successfully work with diverse constituents,including college faculty and administrators as well as inmates andstaff in correctional facilities
