Field Engineering Technologist - Mechanical​/Civil

NSB Omega is searching for a Field Engineering Technologist - Mechanical/Civil for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Lima, OH.

The Field Engineering Technologist (Mechanical/Civil Discipline) supports the safe and effective execution of our US Major Projects by coordinating field activities, verifying contractor performance, and maintaining accurate project documentation. The role serves as a key interface between the field, engineering, contractors, and project leadership, ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved plans, safety requirements, and project controls.

This position does not own project budgets, contracts, or final approval authority, but plays a critical role in verification, coordination, and escalation to enable timely and compliant delivery.

• Support day to day field execution activities under direction of the Construction Manager
• Coordinate contractor activities through Field Supervisors to align with approved schedules and work plans
• Participate in site walkdowns, lead construction and progress meetings
• Verify actual field construction progress against drawings, specifications, and work packages
• Identify execution risks and elevate issues proactively

• Actively support site safety programs and contractor safety compliance
• Participate in hazard identification, job safety meetings, and field observations
• Verify that contractors are working in accordance with approved safety plans, permits, and procedures
• Model and reinforce safe work behaviors in the field
• Immediately elevate unsafe conditions or non compliance

This role supports safety execution but does not replace contractor or Prime safety accountability

• Maintain accurate field documentation including:
  • Daily reports
  • Quantities and installed progress
  • Inspection and verification records
• Support cost and schedule tracking by validating work completed
• Assist with change identification and documentation
• Support forecasting, reporting, and close out documentation as required

• Interface directly with contractors to:
  • Clarify scope, drawings, and specifications
  • Verify progress and completion of work
  • Identify variances or non conformances
• Track contractor performance against approved plans
• Communicate observations, risks, and recommendations to project leadership

The role verifies and reports — it does not direct contractor means, methods, or commercial decisions.

• Serve as a liaison between field operations, engineering, project controls, and management
• Review and contribute feedback to progress reports and coordination meetings
• Escalate issues clearly, factually, and in a timely manner

• Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field
• 6-8 years of experience supporting major construction projects
• Strong understanding of construction field practices and safety requirements
• Experience working with contractors and multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
• Comfortable working in active field environments

Role is onsite in Lima, OH

Work schedule:

5-8 hour days/week (40 hr/week) to start and transition to 5-10 hour days (50 hr/week) as field work scopes kick off

Potential travel required between sites

Preference for local candidates, though we will consider non-local candidates (non-local would be eligible for $176/calendar day per diem and mobilize in/mobilize out at beginning/end of assignment (either economy airfare OR mileage at IRS rate)
