The City of Lima is accepting applications and testing for the position of Police Officer.
Candidates must submit application and take examination.
Final date to receive applications and Testing:
August 7, 2026
Candidates passing the exam with a 70% or higher will be certified to the eligible list.
Rate of Pay: $31.06 per hour with pay differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts
Vouchers: Residents of Allen Co, OH may receive a voucher to cover the cost of the entry-level exam. Candidates must show proof of residency.

Under general supervision, enforces law; assists in investigations; prepares and maintains police records; maintains personal and professional competence and awareness; may be assigned to perform S.W.A.T., D.A.R.E., and Safety City Officer Duties. Performs related duties as required.
QualificationsThe training, education and work experience that indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. The minimum acceptable qualifications for this position are:
Completion of high school education and training and experience involving considerable contact with the public. Must pass the Civil Service Examination for the position. Must possess valid Ohio Driver’s license. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and not fifty-one years of age or older at time of appointment.
The mission of the Lima Police Department is "To work in partnership with the community to improve the quality of life by creatively solving problems related to crime, the fear of crime, neighborhood decay, and to safeguard the constitutional rights of all". All members of the department work in partnership with the community, including the special units: the Social Media Team, Dive Team, Bike Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT Team, K9 Unit, and members of Community-Oriented Policing Program, members working with Safety City, Honor Guard, and Crash Team.
