Histotechnician – Lima Medical Office Building 750 W High
The Histotechnician will perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. The Histology Technician ensures tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the required standards. Responsibilities include providing the highest quality medical laboratory services, working independently, and troubleshooting any problems under the general supervision of a manager or lead technologist.
EssentialFunctions
- Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
- Assists the Pathologist in the gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section procedures
- Reports accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care
- Documents problems that may affect test performance and performs corrective actions when needed
- Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in proper readiness, cleanliness, and sharpens and hones microtome knives
- Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required
- Other duties as assigned
- High School Degree or GED (required)
- Associate of Science (preferred)
- Histotechnician (HT) Certification by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (preferred)
- BSM:
Histology experience preferred, not required - RSFH: 2 years Histology experience required
