Patient Assistance Navigator
Functioning within Lima Memorial Health System’s mission, values, objectives, policies and procedures, the Patient Assistance Navigator develops and maintains formal processes, policies and procedures to optimize patient access to medications needed for their treatment. Develops collaborative relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers and others to establish patient medication assistance programs. Provides timely education and advocacy regarding patient coverage issues/options and alternative funding sources for medications.
Understands and interprets insurance and medication terminology. Understands cost sharing of patients and bridging gaps in coverage. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent (GED) is preferred with an emphasis on a business curriculum strongly preferred. Licensure/Certification: N/A
Experience:
One to three years of experience in health care, specific to physician office practice preferred.
Skills:
Strong communication skills including the ability to greet patients and answer the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner, the ability to speak clearly and concisely, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all constituents are required. Requires advanced customer service experience and interpersonal skills. Must have knowledge of business office procedures, strong grammatical, spelling and punctuation skills, and basic typing ability and computer skills.
Must also demonstrate the ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction, sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
