Job Summary

The Special Procedures and Cath Lab Technologist will assist the Licensed Practitioner in the completion of fluoroscopic and specialized interventional and neuro‑interventional procedures while using sterile technique. They prepare, administer, and document medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws and facility policy.

Essential Functions
  • Perform high‑quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, and venous systems, adhering to exam protocols unless clinically required deviations.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explain the procedure, provide instructions, and minimize patient anxiety.
  • Contact referring physician for clarification prior to exam if the order is suspect.
  • Utilize the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document critical findings per department policy.
  • Complete assigned tasks within an appropriate time frame.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the mission and values of Bon Secours Mercy Health and adhere to standards set by the Corporate Responsibility program, reporting any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety initiatives, and patient confidentiality policies.
  • Perform non‑invasive vascular exams at a proficient level.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of vascular anatomy, exam procedures, interpretation criteria, and correlation of results with other hospital procedures.
Licensing and Certification
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) (required).
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required; must obtain prior to direct patient care).
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred).
  • Certification in Cardiovascular‑Interventional Radiography RT(R)(CV)(ARRT) (preferred).
  • Certification in Vascular‑Interventional Radiology RT(R)(VI)(ARRT) (preferred).
  • State licensure (preferred unless required by the state where the job is performed).
Education
  • Associate’s degree from an ARRT‑accredited institute (preferred).
Experience
  • 1 year experience in radiology with surgical experience in use of CR (preferred).
Training
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred).
  • Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) (preferred).
Physiological Skills and Competencies
  • De‑escalation, debriefing, motivational interviewing, patient‑centered care, care planning.
  • Medication reconciliation, monitoring patient conditions during treatment, administering non‑intravenous medications.
  • Report patient conditions and care to medical professionals; record medical histories with attention to detail.
  • Communication with family, teamwork, conflict resolution, active listening, relationship building.
  • Accept authority, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Working Conditions &

Physical Requirements

Possible exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, physical restraints, hazardous substances or body fluids, human blood, and other potentially infectious materials. Requires use of personal protective equipment and infection control policies. May involve constant interruptions.

Physical demands include lifting/carrying 0–50 lbs., 50–100 lbs., pushing/pulling 0–50 lbs., 50–100 lbs., stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, balancing, and bending. Requires manual dexterity, eye/hand coordination, shift work, and ability to maneuver patient weight.

Hazard exposure includes electrical shock, X‑ray and electromagnetic energy, high‑pitched noises, and radiation.
