Registered Nurse - Post-Operative Open Heart Care

7:00 PM - 7:30 AM

This is a 13-week contract position.

Job Description:

Functioning within the health system's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of assigned patients on his/her shift. The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using age-specific criteria with judgments based on scientific knowledge and clinical skills. The RN also assists in planning, directing, and teaching non-RN staff such as LPN/PCT and Unit Secretaries.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct post-operative care for open heart patients.
• Manage and care for chest tubes and other drainage systems.
• Undertake pre- and post-procedure care for patients with radial and femoral access.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, read, and interpret cardiac rhythm strips.
• Assist in the removal of pericardial pacing wires and chest tubes.
• Manage temporary pacemakers and troubleshoot non-invasive ventilation devices.
• Float to all units within the scope of skill level.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.
• Post-operative open heart care experience is required.
• Critical care experience is highly preferred.
• Experience with chest tube and other drain management is required.
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and knowledge of cardiac and pulmonary abnormalities is required.
• Active American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Active American Heart Association ACLS certification.
• Active Ohio/OH or Compact RN License.
