Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, General Labor
Position Description
A maintenance mechanic who rigs, installs, services, moves and dismantles equipment and machinery and performs such other work as not specifically designated under other maintenance classifications. Includes moving and locating machines and equipment according to floor plans; installing, rearranging and removing overhead line shafting, mechanical handling systems, hoists, etc.
Use such tools and equipment as drill presses, power saws, chain falls, jacks, skids, slings, burning torches, and other types of portable and hand tools. When required, should be able to plan, layout and complete work with a minimum of supervision. May be assisted by helpers.
May also be required to handle/manage hazardous waste from time to time.
Position Requirements- Must be U.S. Citizen.
- Must successfully complete the pre-employment process including drug screen and background check.
- Must obtain Department of Army Police unescorted access.
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Ability to obtain / maintain security clearance.
- Must satisfy skills test- including vision, audio, respirator, physical.
- Journeyman and/or eight years’ experience. Must be a Journeyman with a 4-Year State-approved apprenticeship or 8 years of documented experience in the Trade.
- Ability to work any shift.
- Lifting and handling various parts – must be able to lift greater than 40 #.
- Must be able, willing and capable of working aloft. Cannot be afraid of heights.
- Wearing personal protective equipment/clothing, including a respirator.
- Climbing ladders and stairs.
- Potential for walking and standing on uneven surfaces.
- Potential for working in both overhead and laying prone positions.
- Working in inclement weather including heat and cold.
- Working in areas with a high noise volume.
- Working in areas with dust and fumes.
- Potential for working in confined spaces.
- Overtime and off-shift work may be required.
