POSITION SUMMARYAs a Freight Handler, you will play a vital role in transporting freight in a dynamic and fast-paced dock environment. This position involves moving goods to and from trailers for effective loading and unloading.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESUtilize both motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, to handle freight efficiently.
Ensure the accuracy of freight documentation, verifying it matches the freight description in accordance with safety regulations.
Secure freight within trailers with the appropriate equipment and materials to prevent damage during transport.
Repair any damaged freight when necessary and maintain careful records and reports related to freight handling.
Provide assistance to customers with their freight and documentation needs.
Conduct hostling duties as required to facilitate operations.
Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned to support overall operations.
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operation is a plus.
Familiarity with hostler or yard mule duties is advantageous.
Basic math skills and the ability to count accurately, with or without a calculator.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Capability to lift and carry freight of various weights regularly, including handling heavy dock plates and trailer doors.
Ability to bend, twist, and perform manual tasks throughout the shift.
Team player with the ability to work independently.
Previous experience in a dock or warehouse setting is preferred.
Work in a dock environment with exposure to various weather conditions, noise, and other typical warehouse elements.
Hours may vary based on operational needs.
This role involves frequent interaction with service center personnel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.
