The Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of clinical instruction and related activities.
They will provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The Instructor will adhere to the general and adjunct faculty guidelines as specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the Drake State Community and Technical College Personnel Handbook.
SalaryAppropriate placement of Local Salary Schedule "L" at $35.00 per contact hour with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or $38.63 per contact hour with a Master's degree in Nursing.
Work HoursClasses are taught on the Huntsville campus and various hospitals. This is a part‑time position, maximum hours of (19) per week.
Perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J.
F. Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook.
- Maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area
- Make patient assignments for students according to their skill level and course objectives
- Arrive at clinical on time and actively engage students throughout the clinical day
- Provide clinical instruction in accordance with approved course outlines using a variety of instructional strategies
- Handle conflicts with students competently, discreetly and with professionalism
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit them according to announced deadlines
- Prepare and grade assignments and projects, as required
- Conduct debriefing/post conference at the end of each clinical day
- Present a professional appearance, communicate well with nursing staff and with students
- Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community college
- Perform additional essential job functions that are unique to the instructor position and/or teaching field

- Post and maintain student hours in accordance with prevailing policy
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
- Current, active, unencumbered Alabama Registered Nursing License
- Current CPR certification at Health Care Provider Level through American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
- Master's Degree and (18) graduate semester hours in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
- Two (2) years of clinical experience, at least one (1) year in an acute in‑patient medical‑surgical setting or (1) year in a maternal or pediatric setting
