Position OverviewThe Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a motivated and passionate Educator to instruct students in their assigned curriculum area using current developmental teaching methods. The educator will set student goals, implement behavior techniques, collaborate with school staff, and provide supportive supervision.
Essential Functions- Administer classroom and individual instruction to participating youth in the assigned subject area(s).
- Develop curricula for each assigned teaching subject within the Core Curriculum policy.
- Create examination tools to measure student strengths, weaknesses, and progress.
- Maintain detailed records and reports on attendance, achievement, and individual progress.
- Direct students in recreational, social, or extracurricular activities.
- Attend and participate in discussion and planning at teachers’ meetings, counselor‑teacher meetings, team meetings, and staff development.
- Perform other duties reasonably within the scope of the above duties.
- Current and valid Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Professional Educator License (PEL) for Secondary Education, Grades 9-12, in Language Arts.
- At least two years of experience implementing behavior modification principles.
- At least two years of experience providing educational support to students with extreme and profound emotional impairments.
- At least one year of experience evaluating students using provided tools and/or programs for behavioral objective creation.
- At least one year of experience evaluating students’ individual educational needs.
- At least one year of experience guiding and directing staff for student training and development.
- At least two years of experience with Microsoft Word or equivalent software.
- At least one year of experience with Microsoft Excel or equivalent software.
- At least one year of experience with Microsoft Outlook or equivalent software.
- Demonstrated patience and tolerance with a wide range of behavior.
- Pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Pass a drug screen; unauthorized drug use is prohibited.
- Use the English language in preparing and delivering instructions.
- Travel in performance of duties and attend meetings, conferences, and related events.
