About the role

As a Lead Direct Support Professional (Lead DSP), you will play an essential role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while serving as a mentor and resource to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). This position combines direct care responsibilities with leadership duties to help ensure high-quality services, a positive home environment, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

The Lead DSP works closely with the Residential Service Director (RSD), Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP), nursing staff, and other team members to support daily operations, promote person‑centered services, and ensure the needs of the individuals served are met.

This position may require a flexible schedule based on operational needs, including day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

What you'll do

  • Provide direct support and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community settings.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for DSP staff through coaching, training, and ongoing support.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees.
  • Help ensure documentation is completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with company requirements.
  • Monitor the home environment to identify concerns related to health, safety, cleanliness, or quality of care.
  • Communicate operational issues and staffing concerns to residential leadership.
  • Assist with medication administration in accordance with company policy and state regulations when appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Support implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISPs), behavioral support strategies, and personal outcomes.
  • Coordinate and lead community activities that promote individual choice, independence, and participation.
  • Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and operational needs as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and person‑centered care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively coach and support coworkers in a positive and professional manner.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background screenings, registry reviews, and training requirements.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions including assisting individuals with daily living activities and participating in community‑based services.

The pay range for this role is:

19.50 - 22.50 USD per hour (Lincoln House)
