Job Description

Are you an insurance investment accountant looking for an opportunity to own complex investment reporting while working with a sophisticated portfolio of fixed income and mortgage assets?

Our client is seeking a Lead Investment Accountant to join its Investment Accounting team. This role is heavily focused on investment accounting, statutory reporting, and regulatory reporting for a large life insurance investment portfolio. While financial reporting is part of the position, the primary emphasis is on accounting for fixed income securities, mortgage investments, and supporting NAIC reporting requirements.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex accounting issues, becoming the technical expert on investment reporting, and partnering across accounting, finance, and investment teams. Although the title includes "Lead," this is a technical leadership position rather than a people management role.

Your New Employer

Our client is a well-established financial services organization recognized for its long‑term stability, collaborative culture, and commitment to technical excellence. The company offers a supportive environment where accounting professionals are encouraged to deepen their expertise, contribute to process improvements, and build lasting careers within a highly regulated industry.

This team supports a sophisticated investment portfolio and partners closely with accounting, finance, treasury, and other corporate functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Employees enjoy flexible work arrangements, strong work‑life balance, and the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in investment accounting within a stable, growth‑oriented organization.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead statutory and GAAP accounting for a complex portfolio of fixed income investments and mortgage assets.
  • Prepare and review investment accounting schedules, statutory financial statements, regulatory filings, and NAIC reporting, including AVR and IMR calculations.
  • Research and resolve complex investment accounting issues while ensuring compliance with statutory accounting guidance.
  • Support internal controls, process improvements, system enhancements, and investment accounting documentation.
  • Serve as the technical resource for investment accounting matters while mentoring teammates and partnering with auditors and regulatory examiners.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field - required; CPA referred.
  • 5+ years of insurance accounting experience with a strong emphasis on investment accounting.
  • Direct experience accounting for fixed income securities, mortgage loans, or insurance investment portfolios.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory accounting, GAAP reporting, NAIC requirements, and insurance regulatory reporting.
  • Flexible hybrid schedule with remote opportunities for candidates within driving distance of Lincoln.
  • Opportunity to specialize in one of the most technically advanced areas of insurance accounting.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Competitive retirement program with company contributions.
  • Generous paid time off, wellness programs, professional development support, and exceptional long‑term career stability.

The base salary range for this position will always match the salary range listed in the job title headline, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
