About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join a premier insurance company experiencing significant growth and innovation. This position plays a key role in supporting corporate tax operations, regulatory reporting, and compliance while helping modernize tax processes through cloud-based technology and automation.
Working closely with senior accounting leadership, you'll contribute to tax reporting, withholding operations, monthly close activities, and regulatory filings while gaining exposure to modern financial systems and enterprise technology platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to build expertise within the insurance and annuity industry while working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and validate IRS Forms 5498, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, and 945
- Process and monitor backup withholding requirements and tax reporting
- Perform weekly federal and state tax withholding reconciliations
- Assist with federal, state, and premium tax compliance filings
- Prepare monthly tax accruals, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support deferred tax asset (DTA) schedules and corporate tax provision work papers
- Research and respond to tax-related questions from internal teams and business partners
- Gather and organize financial data for internal and external tax reporting
- Maintain documentation supporting internal controls and compliance processes
- Assist with migrating tax processes from Excel into cloud-based financial systems
- Utilize enterprise accounting and reporting systems to improve reporting accuracy and automation
- Support month-end close activities and ongoing accounting operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1–3 years of experience in corporate tax, public accounting, insurance, or financial services accounting
- Knowledge of corporate tax compliance and information reporting (Forms 5498, 1099, and 945 preferred)
- Understanding of tax accounting concepts such as deferred taxes (ASC 740 experience is a plus)
- Experience with ERP or financial reporting systems is preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
