We are seeking an experienced and dependable Assistant Controller to join our accounting team. This position is responsible for supporting the daily accounting operations of the organization while ensuring the accuracy of financial records, managing payroll, and assisting with financial reporting and month-end close. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.
- Oversee all aspects of payroll administration, including payroll processing, payroll taxes, tax filings, garnishments, benefit deductions, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Work directly with third-party payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management activities.
- Assist with annual audits and tax preparation.
- Maintain internal controls and recommend process improvements.
- Support management by providing accurate financial information and analysis.
- Perform other accounting and finance duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Proven experience managing payroll, including payroll tax reporting, payroll compliance, and coordination with third-party payroll providers.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles, financial reporting, and month-end close.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software or ERP systems.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Construction or project-based accounting experience is a plus but not required.
