Construction Materials Testing Manager – Tempe, AZ
We are recruiting for an experienced Construction Materials Testing Manager to lead and support a team of technicians and field staff on infrastructure and building projects in the Tempe, AZ area.
This role is responsible for overseeing construction materials testing and inspection activities across projects involving concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, and other construction materials. The manager will provide technical direction, mentor field staff, review complex testing and inspection issues, and help ensure project work meets quality, safety, documentation, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and support technicians and field staff on construction materials testing projects
- Oversee QA/QC processes for construction assignments and project deliverables
- Coordinate staffing, technical resources, and project support needs
- Review construction inspection and testing activities and help resolve complex technical issues
- Interpret field conditions and test results to provide informed recommendations
- Serve as a technical advisor to clients, contractors, project managers, and internal teams
- Support project studies through research, field testing, laboratory testing, data collection, and technical input
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, efficiency, and project outcomes
- Promote safe work practices and communicate safety expectations to junior staff
- Work on active construction sites in various terrain, weather, and project conditions
Ideal Background:
- 10+ years of experience in construction materials testing, construction inspection, or a related construction field
- Strong leadership, communication, client service, and decision-making skills
- Experience mentoring technicians or less experienced field staff
- Ability to manage multiple project priorities and provide technical guidance
- Associate degree in a construction-related field preferred
Preferred Certifications:
- OSHA 30
- ACI Grade I
- ATTI Asphalt and Soils
- NICET I/II
- ICC certifications such as Reinforced Concrete, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, or Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete
- Nuclear Gauge certification
- ADOT certifications such as Asphalt Level I/II, Soils, and Aggregate
Compensation:
$60,000 to $90,000 annually
