Heavy Equipment Operator, Site Manager
Job Summary
Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of assigned field employees in grading for heavy highway construction. Provide leadership and manage safety, scheduling, workforce planning, supervision, and cost control in accordance with the company safety program and policies. Reliable attendance is required; work may entail overnight stays, sometimes a week at a time or longer.
Responsibilities- Responsible and accountable for the safety of assigned crew members.
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of field employees while assessing the competency, capabilities, and needs of the crew.
- Monitor work to ensure it meets project plans and specifications.
- Operate and monitor the maintenance of equipment related to moving dirt, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and motor graders.
- Set up and use stringless grading GPS or UTS systems.
- Identify schedule needs and deficiencies and communicate them to the appropriate people.
- Read grade stakes and use grade hubs for sub‑grade preparation.
- Communicate with appropriate people regarding any needs, concerns, or issues.
- Assist in accident investigations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High‑school diploma or GED.
- Three years of previous heavy highway construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Preference for previous asphalt and concrete paving experience.
- Valid driver’s license; must be insurable.
- Secure equipment and manage loading, unloading, and cleaning of equipment.
- Read, analyze, interpret, and obtain necessary information from source documents, data, design plans, specifications, and reference materials.
- Understand project construction scope and objectives.
- Working knowledge of equipment for production (e.g., trimmers, motor grader).
- Familiarity with NDOR and City of Lincoln specifications for sub‑grade preparation, foundation course, and fine grading.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Preferred, but not required:

Candidate must meet the qualifications, task frequency, and PPE requirements. Approval of pre‑employment reference and background checks, and post‑offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are required as conditions of employment.
