SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Safety Engineer that will be responsible for implementing Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project sites and ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site.
This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Implement and administer safety programs at worksites, including site‑specific safety activities and training programs
- Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, and analyze loss control data
- Lead OSHA reporting, monitor subcontractor activities, and review safety submittals
- Record, monitor, and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics
- Provide safety‑related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, and maintain knowledge of safety standards
- Serve as a resource for safety issues, attend safety meetings, and assist with major incident analysis
- Work with client safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers
- Ensure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and build relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
- Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, or equivalent; OR high school diploma with CHST Certification, OSHA 500, and a minimum of 10 years construction experience leading crews and planning work, including at least six years as a dedicated construction safety professional responsible for managing project safety programs, conducting/reviewing hazard analyses, developing controls, conducting safety training, and planning work activities or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of four years of construction safety experience
- Current valid driver's license
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant safety software programs
- Positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies effectively
- Willingness to travel up to 100%
- Senior Safety Engineer I:
Base pay range $89,500 MIN – $120,800 MAX - Senior Safety Engineer II:
Base pay range $95,700 MIN – $129,200 MAX - Actual range higher for Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (+5%);
Seattle, WA and Portland, OR (+10%);
Washington, D.C. (+12.5%) - Base pay positioned within range based on knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration for internal equity; eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
