Superintendent Job Description Purpose
- Lead all on-site construction activities
- Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards
- Serve as the company’s primary field representative
- Own site safety and daily field execution
- Maintain schedule adherence and trade coordination
- Deliver quality installation per plans and specifications
- Represent the company professionally on site
- Establish site layout, access, fencing, signage, and safety controls
- Implement SWPPP, erosion control, and dust control measures
- Coordinate utilities, temporary facilities, and staging areas
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA compliance
- Conduct safety orientations and weekly toolbox talks
- Identify hazards and correct unsafe conditions immediately
- Ensure proper PPE usage and documentation
- Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules
- Coordinate daily activities of subcontractors and suppliers
- Sequence work to maintain productivity and avoid conflicts
- Monitor milestone progress and notify PM of delays
- Verify work complies with drawings, specs, and approved submittals
- Conduct pre-installation meetings with trades
- Perform ongoing inspections and fit-and-finish coordination
- Lead pre-punch and final punch processes
- Coordinate deliveries, staging, and material verification
- Monitor subcontractor performance and manpower levels
- Resolve field conflicts and elevate issues when needed
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily reports, photos, manpower counts, and site logs
- Document weather impacts and field conditions
- Track inspections and testing requirements
- Interface with owner, architect, inspectors, and consultants on site
- Participate in OAC/site meetings
- Mentor field staff and promote team culture
- Identify field changes, conflicts, and potential cost impacts
- Notify PM of scope changes and potential claims
- Document unforeseen conditions and directives
- Coordinate inspections and final approvals
- Complete punch list and verify corrections
- Assist with warranties, attic stock, and owner turnover
- Zero recordable safety incidents
- ≥ 95% milestone adherence
- Rework < 1% of contract value
- Labor productivity ≥ 95% of planned hours
- Inspection pass rate ≥ 98%
- Client/architect satisfaction ≥ 8/10
