Description Of WorkSheldon Museum of Art is looking for individuals with a passion for sharing art and serving their community. Reporting directly to the Manager of Community Learning and Engagement, museum educators will be responsible for facilitating school tours, developing summer educational experiences, assisting with family days, and representing Sheldon at off-site community events. Working with the world class Sheldon art collection, the ideal candidate will have a combination of experience teaching and a solid baseline knowledge of art.
The position is a part-time, 9-month appointment (March – November).
This is a Temporary position of up to 2 years.
Essential Functions- Facilitate K-12 school tours at Sheldon, with primary focus being 5th grade tours from Lincoln Public School System.
- Develop and facilitate summer educational experiences, tours, and workshops.
- Assist with family day programming.
- Represent Sheldon at community tabling events.
- Write, prepare, present, and tear-down Sheldon educational materials.
- Provide a safe and welcoming presence for all audiences, holding oneself up to a high standard of customer service and safety for both visitors and the artworks on display.
- Follow all standards set forth at Sheldon, and keeping up to date on best practices as they are set by the institution.
- Be an effective communicator and listener; presenting programs that center the visitor’s experience.
- Develop tour materials including activities, self-guided experiences, or engagement prompts.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent education and experience
- Experience working with K-12 and youth audiences; especially in informal settings
- A knowledge of Art, Art History, and/or Education
- Commitment to structural equity, inclusion, and belonging toward broad-based institutional excellence, representing a range of perspectives, thoughts, and actions
- Strong cross-cultural competence
- The ability to be flexible and search for solutions when faced with moment-to-moment challenges, while maintaining a welcoming attitude for visitors.
- The ability to be active for up to 3 continuous hours at a time, moving through a large campus
- Ability to lift and move up to 24 pounds when needed
- Proficient writing and computer skills
- Motivated and detail-oriented individual who is an effective communicator, team player, and public speaker
- Bachelor’s degree in education, art, art history, history, or similar subject
- Experience leading tours or developing educational materials
- Knowledge of Nebraska Department of Education Content Area Standards
- Basic knowledge of computers and the Microsoft and google suite of programs
$17.00/hr
