Description of Work:
At the University of Nebraska's College of Engineering, our mission is to train the next generation engineering workforce and solve problems of global importance. We're one college in two cities (Lincoln and Omaha) on three campuses. This position is located on the Scott Campus in Omaha.
As an Academic Advisor, you will:
- Serve as an engaged member of the Engineering Student Services (ESS) advising team.
- Advise undergraduate students in the College of Engineering on academic and student success topics using inclusive advising strategies.
- Work primarily one-on-one with students to engage in collaborative advising conversations and share developmentally appropriate feedback regarding academic/course planning, degree progress, and engagement in co-curricular opportunities.
- Proactively supports the academic and social needs of undergraduate engineering students, especially first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented college students.
- Identify and provide support for students struggling academically and/or personally and make appropriate referrals to support services.
- Collaborate with the ESS team and other offices to develop and support initiatives to aid student retention and success efforts.

MinimumRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus two years of demonstrated experience working with students in one-on-one or group advising settings.
- Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience.
- Demonstrated ability or experience working with diverse populations.
- Experience must demonstrate an ability to learn and stay current on complex academic requirements, policies and procedures.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, organization/time management skills and computer skills.
- Ability to work as an effective team member.
- Master's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, business, or related field.
- Experience with college/university-level students.
- Experience with academic and/or social support for first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented college students.
- Experience using advising software programs and/or student information systems.
- Demonstrated advising and/or counseling skills.
Posted Salary: $43,000/year minimum
