Job Title
Academic Advisor (Focus Area in Cooperative Education)
Nature of Work
Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule, choice of major, career, number of hours that may be taken, probation, and/or suspension. Contact may be on individual or group basis or be made by correspondence.
Examples of Work Performed
1. Serves primarily as a Career Scholars first year academic advisor.
2. Assists in the development, sustainability and adaptation of co-op programs.
3. Plans, prepares, and implements Career Scholars activities and initiatives (such as career fairs and networking events, mock interviews, and other programs that connect students with employers).
4. Coordinates and attends employer activities, events, site visits, employer networking and off- site activities.
5. Facilitates career placement services and resources for students including expanding a network of potential employers and facilitating internship opportunities.
6. Assists with cohort student recruitment, retention and development; in-class activities including attending classes and leading breakout sessions or group discussions.
7. Maintains an assigned caseload of students from initial enrollment to graduation building relationships, coaching, and facilitating skill development to support students in achieving their cooperative education and career goals.
8. Registers students during New Student Registration, transfer events and assists with other aspects of New Student Registration program days.
9. Supports retention efforts by identifying students' academic needs, contacting them, and developing a plan toward academic and career success.
10. Utilizes CSM and Canvas to process and track student assignments and employer/experiential activities.
11. Provides leadership for Career Scholar peer mentors, ensuring alignment with program goals and student success initiatives.
12. Monitors events, budgets, and expenditures.
13. Serves as the department liaison with the College Relations department.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree

Organizational skills, event planning, advising or student activities experience.

Salary Information
Competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive and comprehensive benefit package. Annual salary range is $51,404- $64,256.

Wayne State College is seeking an Academic Advisor (Focus Area in Cooperative Education).
This position works with the Career Scholars Cooperative Education Program and involves maintaining a student advising caseload, planning student events and activities, assisting with student recruitment, and supporting student success initiatives.
Candidates should be comfortable leading group discussions, and attending occasional evening, weekend, and off-campus events. Local and regional travel may be required.
