Summary / Primary PurposeWork with youth and adults in the Corps and community to plan and implement music classes that will include music theory, performance skills, musicianship, and character. This position requires scheduled attendance which may include evenings, nights, and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the position.
- Provide music classes to school‑age children in 2nd Grade through High School and adults.
- Participate and lead students during Shield Fine Arts recitals/concerts.
- Provide supervision for the children in the program.
- Enforce all rules and fair discipline among program participants.
- Report any accidents/incidents to the director and complete the proper forms.
- Responsible for the set up and take down of games and equipment used for activities.
- Positively interact with volunteers and visitors.
- All other duties as assigned.
To supervise youth engaged in the Shield Fine Arts Academy programs.
Education and ExperienceA minimum of 2 years of music experience working with children or adults. A bachelor’s degree in music is preferred, or extensive experience teaching music. An advanced degree or training is desired; however, a combination of a high‐school diploma (or its equivalent) and teaching experience will be considered.
Qualifications- Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; ability to access payroll, time‑keeping, and personal data via a web‑based system.
- Administrative skills including utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, attention to detail, and filing.
- Good written and spoken communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
- Must pass all applicable background checks.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license from the state in which you reside.
- Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire as established by The Salvation Army.
Regular use of hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. Frequently required to sit; occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. May occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Working ConditionsThe work environment has moderate and occasionally high noise levels. Ability to work indoor and outdoor in all seasons.
