Associate Director of Academic Advising Initiatives (Open to University Staff Only)

The Associate Director of Academic Advising Initiatives provides oversight of academic advising, new student onboarding, and student success initiatives within the College of Arts and Sciences. Responsibilities include coordinating college participation in new student enrollment and orientation programs; supervising, developing, and assessing professional advising staff; leading advisor training and workload management; supporting college-wide retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives; maintaining a limited advising caseload while providing complex academic guidance;
collaborating with academic departments and campus partners to improve student success outcomes; and contributing to assessment, data analysis, and continuous improvement efforts. The role also serves on college and university committees and advances professional development and best practices in academic advising.

- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in higher education with evidence of 1:1 student interaction in advising or related areas.
- Ability to learn and explain extensive university/college requirements, federal law, policies and procedures.
- Experience using a variety of technology platforms.
- Must have strong leadership skills and supervisory experience.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment essential.
- Ability to learn extensive requirements, policies, and procedures;
- Ability to lead projects, build relationships and collaborate across functional units.
- Background in liberal arts and sciences desirable.
- 3 years direct academic advising experience helpful.
- Public speaking skills preferred.
- Experience helping students explore and pursue career opportunities.
