Job Summary
The Estimator will play a crucial role in our project planning and execution phase, focusing on cost estimation, bid proposal preparation, and the initial stages of project management for our underground utility construction projects. This position requires a combination of technical knowledge, analytical skills, and effective communication to ensure accurate and competitive project bidding.
Pay Rate: $65,000 - 95,000 annually; based on experience
Essential Functions / Responsibilities- Estimation & Bidding:
Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and other documentation. Develop preliminary project schedules. - Project Analysis:
Conduct thorough reviews of potential projects to determine feasibility, risk, and profitability. Collaborate with the project management team to align project objectives and strategies. Compile project risk matrix and formulate risk mitigation strategies. - Vendor & Subcontractor Solicitation & Coordination:
Liaise with vendors and subcontractors to solicit and evaluate bids, ensuring all estimates include up-to-date pricing and availability of materials and labor. Perform quote comparisons and make recommendations for selection. - Client Interaction:
Engage with clients during the bidding process to clarify project requirements, adjustments, and to foster strong professional relationships. Present and explain project proposals to clients, designers, and operations teams. - Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of all estimations, bids, and initial project specifications to ensure transparency and accuracy in project initiation. Assist in oversight of historical cost database, bid management, and estimating software. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the project management, engineering, and construction teams to ensure seamless project transitions from estimation to execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Exposure to estimation software (e.g., Agtek Gradework, Highway, Underground and Materials, AutoCAD, HCSS Heavy Bid, and/or Bid2
Win, Bluebeam Revu) - Experience with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- An understanding of construction processes, materials, and the latest industry standards.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Capable of working in a team environment and handling client interactions professionally.
- Able to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel within local areas.
- Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, stand;
Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. - This position requires in-person work.
