Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, support and direction for the maintenance staff. This position coordinates maintenance activities for plant electrical control and mechanical systems related to plant utility, production operations, equipment and processing. The Maintenance Manager provides technical assistance and training for the maintenance staff and interfaces with Engineering and Plant Operations managers. The Manager advises Operations management to resolve critical control and processing capability issues.

A thorough knowledge of processing, plant mechanical and automation is required to successfully manage this position.

Essential Functions
  • Strong leadership skills are required. The individual should be self-directed with minimal supervision, responsible for effective employee management including manpower utilization, timelines, scheduling and conflict resolution, and able to communicate effectively with the maintenance staff.
  • Able to evaluate the performance and abilities of the maintenance staff, set realistic objectives, and provide support to reach goals in accordance with the company’s needs and directives.
  • Convey pertinent status information regarding work orders, repairs and maintenance activities to Operations Plant Manager.
  • Utilize and upgrade the Preventive Maintenance program using FIXX software for documentation and procedural requirements; establish equipment requirements, manpower, and time intervals to generate schedules for overhauls and major inspections.
  • Utilize MP2 Maintenance Software to report and analyze labor efficiency, equipment deficiencies, and to establish inventory levels of spare parts.
  • Manage all equipment changes/installations to ensure timely and in-budget completion of projects.
  • Provide technical training and support for all plant employees involving electrical, control and automation.
  • Adopt a formal approach to engineering matters and use Critical Path Analysis for planning and implementing projects with internal teams and outside contractors.
  • Develop SCADA, MMI, historical trending and database transfer applications controlling plant processes or equipment.
  • Oversee purchasing of spare and repair parts from OEMs and other vendors using ERP (Microsoft D365) to create purchase orders.
  • Maintain working knowledge of software packages (e.g., Excel, Word, Access, Project Manager) and hardware relevant to electrical control changes/installations to ensure timely, in-budget project completion.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of process and mechanical systems and keep up-to-date records of electrical, PLC programs and control systems to ensure operational efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with facility management to define technical needs and capital improvement requirements; recommend capital projects and assist in the execution and startup of projects, responsible for operational performance of new installations and product scale-ups.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement local engineering practices, standards, and management systems in accordance with Process Safety Management, including Process Safety Information, Management of Change, and Mechanical Integrity programs.
  • Support all new product introductions and trials; assist in the development of new products and processes.
  • Attend seminars and courses when needed to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
Requirements
  • Experience in plant system engineering is crucial to successfully managing this position.
  • A minimum of eight years of system integration, electrical, drafting, automation or mechanical experience, and/or an applicable engineering degree plus five years of work experience is necessary.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have attended Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training and follow all mandates.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty independently and satisfactorily; performance is evaluated quarterly. Failure to complete duties correctly and on time may result in dismissal.
  • Good communication, written and time-management skills are essential.
  • Common sense, plant GMPs, and safety rules and guidelines must be followed to maintain a safe facility for food processing.
