The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Deputy Director for the Design Unit – Section 3A.

The successful candidate will oversee and evaluate the work of 3 - 4 Engineers-In-Charge and their teams (comprising roughly 14 engineers and technicians); resolve issues promptly during the project construction phase; and guarantee project completion within the set timeframe, budget constraints, and IFA rate limits. The ideal candidate will formulate standard construction terminology; update and maintain standard specifications for roadway, sewer, and water main construction;

and keep standard drawings current.

Moreover, the Deputy Director will act as the representative of the Design Unit in meetings with utility companies, and city, state, and federal agencies; oversee the consultant design process and train staff in executing the Design Unit's responsibilities; participate in the recruitment efforts of the agency; and support the Assistant Commissioner and Director with the Design group's objectives as required.

ADM ENGINEER (NON MGRL) - 1001A

Minimum Qualifications
  • A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
  • Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
  • Preferred Skills
    • Must have robust supervision experience.
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
    • Knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main).
    • Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
    • Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices.
    • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred).
    • Valid driver's license (required).
    • Personal vehicle (preferred).
