About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our utilities team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing pump stations and pressurized distribution networks for potable water, firefighting systems, and TSE (treated sewage effluent) systems. The role requires technical leadership across detailed design, hydraulic calculations, equipment selection, specification writing, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and support through procurement and construction.

The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with hydraulic modelling software, pump selection, system commissioning, and local standards for water and fire systems.

  • Lead design of pump stations from concept through detailed design.
  • Design pressurized networks for potable water, firefighting, and TSE systems: layout, sizing, hydraulic zoning, pressure management, and isolation schemes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and network analysis (head-loss, flow capacity, pump duty points, system curves, transient/ surge analysis where required).
  • Develop pump selection and pump curve matching; specify motors, drivers (VFDs), control strategies, and instrumentation (pressure/flow/level sensors).
  • Prepare detailed equipment specifications, datasheets, bill of materials, and bid documents for pumps, valves, actuators, hydrants, strainers, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Create and review mechanical drawings (P&IDs, general arrangement, piping and instrumentation, isometrics) and coordinate with civil, electrical, instrumentation, and structural teams.
  • Define and specify piping materials, fittings, supports, expansion joints, cathodic protection and corrosion mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure design compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Evaluate energy efficiency and propose optimization measures (efficient pump selection, VFD control, pressure management, leak reduction).
  • Provide technical support during procurement (tender clarifications, vendor evaluation), factory acceptance tests (FAT), site installation, start-up, commissioning and performance testing.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculation notes, and design deliverables; present design reviews and progress to stakeholders.
  • Identify operational and maintenance considerations; prepare O&M manuals and training materials for operations teams.
  • Participate in risk assessments, value engineering, and QA/QC reviews.
What do we need from you
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Relevant postgraduate qualifications are advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years of practical design experience in mechanical design of water infrastructure, pump stations and pressurized networks.
  • Proven experience with pump selection and hydraulic design for potable water, fire-fighting and wastewater/TSE systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with hydraulic/network modeling software Water

    GEMS.
  • Required experience in surge/transient analysis for pressurized systems using industry-standard tools (e.g Bentley HAMMER, or comparable software) and interpretation of results to recommend appropriate mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D) and familiarity with BIM workflows is preferred.
  • Solid technical writing skills and experience producing design reports and specifications.
  • Good project management skills including time management, prioritization and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with clients, authorities and multidisciplinary teams.
