The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a Professional Engineer to help manage projects in the Alternative Delivery Unit. This key position is part of the Project Development Division, supporting innovative and complex projects that may involve design‑build, construction manager / general contractor (CM/GC), or other alternative delivery methods. Some assigned projects may use traditional design‑bid‑build delivery methods within an Environmental Assessment workflow.
The engineer may also assist with tasks in the Development & Delivery section, including the Project Scoping Unit, Project Studies Unit, or Geodetic Unit.
Pay range is $35.641–$52.539 per hour. If a Professional Engineer I level cannot be filled, the position may be considered at the Engineer level (Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline) with a pay rate of $31.265 per hour.

Job Duties- Facilitate and help manage projects utilizing alternative delivery methods such as Design‑Build and CM/GC.
- Review submitted plans and technical documents for accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Advise consultants on non‑conformance issues, document requirements, and facilitate reasonable solutions.
- Evaluate design proposals, construction methods, and cost estimates.
- Identify and assess risks to project delivery and coordinate mitigation with relevant individuals.
- Assist in developing scopes of services, legal agreements, and contracts for consultants.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to keep initiatives on track.
- Manage multiple projects at various stages simultaneously.
- Coordinate with external partners such as engineering consultants, contractors, independent cost estimators, utilities, cities, counties, and other agencies.
- Schedule and facilitate project‑related meetings, distribute meeting minutes.
- Attend public information meetings, public hearings, field inspections, and NDOT Departmental meetings as required.
- Maintain electronic files to ensure correspondence, agreements, submittals, transmittals, and other documents are organized.
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Division.

- Minimum Qualifications – Engineer
:- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
- Obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment.
- Minimum Qualifications – Professional Engineer I:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
- Possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at the time of application or obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
- Preferred Qualifications
:- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska.
- Two years’ experience in roadway design and/or highway construction.
- Experience in project coordination.

:- Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET‑accredited program or evaluated by NCEES as equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to provide authorized independent transportation.
- Overnight travel required on occasion.
- Regular and reliable attendance required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:- Knowledge of Nebraska Board of Public Roads Classifications and Standards Minimum Design Standards, AASHTO Design Policy, ADA Accessibility guidelines, State and Federal regulations, policies, and guidelines applicable to highway projects.
- General transportation related engineering, design, and construction principles such as surveys, drainage design, geometrics, roads, bridges, and culverts.
- Strong organization skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written form, with individuals at different levels within an organization or the public.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret project plans, agreements, and other contract documents.
