A GIS Technician responsible for performing daily updates on the digital electric distribution model (GIS), working in the field to verify GIS data for accuracy and completeness. This role is ideal for someone who loves detail‑oriented technical work, field verification, CAD drawing utilization, and ensuring GIS data reflects the real world.
Key Responsibilities and Competencies- Update and maintain GIS data by editing features and assigning attribute data using Arc Map.
- Enter and convert data from sources such as SAP work management, written text, email, CAD drawings, sketches, and verbal communication.
- Field verification and equipment labeling of energized electrical distribution systems for quality control, ensuring accurate attribute data and network model connectivity.
- After LES‑verified knowledge and safety training, this includes inspection of energized, high‑voltage equipment or entry into electrical substations.
- Document technical drawings, compare as‑built configurations to the field, create red‑line updates, and track changes from original designs.
- Collaborate with field personnel, system operators, and designers to ensure accurate modeling of infrastructure during construction, inspection, or repair.
- Follow QA/QC processes, use tools, and perform routine data management tasks with accuracy, integrity, and completeness.
- Adhere to safety rules and proper use of PPE, following safety standards and job duties assigned.
- Assist with crisis/emergency situations when necessary.

Skills and Abilities
Required
- Application of GIS and/or CAD software and systems knowledge.
- Knowledge of transmission, substation, and distribution design principles.
- Knowledge of engineering design plans.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in a related field and two years of GIS/CAD or drafting experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties.
