About the role

A Packaging Equipment Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing packaging machinery and systems to ensure efficient and reliable operations. The role works on projects from concept through to implementation and handover, collaborating with various functions to deliver innovative solutions that meet company and industry standards.

Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: specify and develop packaging machinery and systems, including 3D models, detailed drawings, and selecting appropriate materials based on product and production requirements.
  • Analyse and improve packaging processes to enhance reliability, quality, and safety through mechanical innovations.
  • Project Management: manage packaging equipment within larger projects from concept to completion, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with other departments.
  • Compliance and Safety: ensure all mechanical installations and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety and engineering standards.
  • Installation and Commissioning: oversee the installation, commissioning and start‑up of mechanical systems, packaging equipment and machinery, ensuring operational and safety standards are met.
  • Vendor Management: source and manage vendor and supplier relationships, identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovation to enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Technical Support: perform/oversee regular maintenance and troubleshooting of packaging systems and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency; provide technical support and guidance to maintenance and production teams to solve complex packing equipment issues.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment, preferably focusing on packaging machinery or related equipment.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • In‑depth knowledge of engineering principles and safety regulations.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of packaging industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience with automation and robotics in packaging systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Time‑management skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to effectively engage in multicultural environments.
  • Appetite and curiosity for geopolitical topics, technological and supply chain innovation, automation sustainability, digital.

  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • MS Office including MS Project and PowerPoint experience.
  • Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and execution.
