Assistant District Construction Engineer - District 1 (Open)
The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking professional to join our team as an Assistant District Construction Engineer in District 1. Pay range for this Professional Engineer II position is $41.912 per hour to $61.785 per hour. The pay rate is commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved. If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer II level, will consider applicants at the Professional Engineer I level. Pay range for this classification is $36.443 - $53.721 per hour. The pay rate is commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.
If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer I level, will consider applicants at the Engineer level. Pay rate for this classification is $31.968 - $47.125 per hour. Qualifications for each of the above levels are outlined below.
- Assist the District Construction Engineer managing the construction program for the district.
- Reviews plans and specifications for the constructability and accuracy, works with district and appropriate divisions to make changes.
- Represents the Department at pre-construction conferences, public hearings, and meetings.
- Makes progress inspections of projects to ensure construction is in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Ensures environmental commitments are met during project construction.
- Keeps District informed of activities and problems within assigned area.
- Handles inquiries/concerns from the public.
- Reviews change orders, estimates, and working day reports for content and accuracy.
- Supervises assigned Project Managers.
- Enforces District and Department policies and procedures.
- Completes performance reports and ensures the most efficient use of staff, materials and equipment are made.
- Reviews consultant plans on Federal aid projects.
- Assures applicable procedures, policies and design standards are met.
- Manages the hiring process and training and employee development process for the District's Construction function.
- Works with the Human Resources Division to complete the process, prepare interview questions, conduct interviews, etc.
- Manages the drug testing process for the District construction staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Professional Engineer II:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and one year of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
Professional Engineer I:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at the time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment.
