Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a Professional Engineer to serve as our Digital Project Delivery Unit Head to assist in our efforts to implement Digital Project Delivery (DPD) to our transportation projects statewide.

range for this position is $41.912 -$61.785 per hour. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.

Job Duties:

Performs complex professional engineering assignments under limited supervision to audit preliminary and final 3D design models for statewide standards compliance. Conducts structural model integrity checks, clash detection, and level-of-development (LOD) reviews on internal and consultant-led projects to verify accuracy before the letting phase.

Serves as the technical expert in specialty design software platforms (e.g., Open Roads, Civil 3D). Formulates standards and tests workspace configurations, feature definitions, and data schemas to ensure engineering datasets align with agency regulations and BIM Open Data standards.

Develops and delivers technical engineering training curricula and SOP documentation to PEs, EITs, technicians, and external consultants. Leads workshops on advanced 3D modeling workflows, digital terrain generation, and data driven contract deliverable preparation.

Provides professional engineering advice to project managers regarding model-centric design limitations or geometric anomalies.

Evaluates various digital data sources and technologies to prepare technical project reports and implementation strategies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and one year of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of progressively responsible experience leading and managing engineering functions.

Demonstrated experience using total quality management principles and decision making.

Other:

Must have a valid driver's license.

Travel including limited overnight travel is required.

Regular and reliable attendance is also required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: civil engineering theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering and design; modern methods and techniques of highway construction, maintenance, and materials; legal responsibilities and ramifications associated with the work performed; federal and agency design standards, specifications, and procedures; federal and State laws and regulations applicable to the function performed; practices and terminology of computer operation and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD);
Geographic Information Systems (GIS); mathematics, surveying and material testing; engineering properties of materials and surfacing types; rehabilitation and maintenance techniques; pavement management; practical engineering concepts.
