Digital Project Delivery Unit Head (Professional Engineer II)

Pay Range: $41.912 – $61.785 per hour

• Audit preliminary and final 3D design models for statewide standards compliance.
• Conduct structural model integrity checks, clash detection, and level‑of‑development reviews before the letting phase.
• Serve as the technical expert on specialty design software platforms such as Open Roads and Civil3D.
• Formulate standards and test workspace configurations, feature definitions, and data schemas to align engineering datasets with agency regulations and BIM Open Data standards.
• Develop and deliver technical engineering training curricula and SOP documentation to PEs, EITs, technicians, and external consultants.
• Lead workshops on advanced 3D modeling workflows, digital terrain generation, and data‑driven contract deliverable preparation.
• Provide professional engineering advice to project managers regarding model‑centric design limitations or geometric anomalies.
• Evaluate digital data sources and technologies to prepare technical project reports and implementation strategies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• Minimum one year of experience performing professional‑level engineering assignments.
• Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license issued by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects, or ability to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including limited overnight travel.
• Regular and reliable attendance required.
• Three years of progressively responsible experience leading and managing engineering functions (preferred).
• Demonstrated experience using total quality management principles and decision‑making skills (preferred).

• Extensive knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles, and design practices.
• Understanding of modern methods and techniques for highway construction, maintenance, and materials.
• Familiarity with federal and agency design standards, specifications, and procedures.
• Proficiency with computer operation, CAD/CAM, GIS, and related software.
• Ability to interpret and implement state and federal laws, regulations, and agency policies.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Capacity to develop procedures, plan and direct work, and provide technical guidance to staff.
• Ability to evaluate professional and technical skills of team members and assign work accordingly.
• Effective interpersonal skills for interacting with agency staff, contractors, consultants, and the public.
