Job Summary

Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization s environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that facilities are in compliance with regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Outlines and implements policies or programs to educate and promote employee health and safety or environmental compliance.
  • Delivers training programs educating staff on environmental concerns or health and safety risks found in the organization.
  • Communicates regularly with management and administration regarding the status of environmental initiatives.
  • Ensures that training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation are appropriately maintained.
  • Tracks and documents accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future accidents.
  • Monitors known health, safety, or environmental hazards, such as noise, air, or wastewater pollution levels.
  • Coordinates inspection of facilities, vehicles, or equipment and processes recommending corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance with established regulations.
  • Communicates facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans.
  • Has a broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Required education and experience: Associate s Degree and 5-7 years  experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with environmental activities, including air and wastewater permits, regulatory reporting. Experience with hazardous waste shipping, profiles and manifests. Familiar with EPA regulations;
    Industrial Hygienist background a plus.
  • Preferred education and experience: Bachelor s Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Safety best practices; safety communications; safety inspections; safety investigations; safety policies and procedures; safety training; inspection documentation.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
Travel Requirements

Up to 25% travel likely.
