About the role
Payroll that supports people – as a Payroll Systems Analyst you will help keep our payroll systems running smoothly, accurately and efficiently for colleagues across the Society. This fixed‑term role combines payroll knowledge, systems thinking and a meticulous eye for detail, working within the Payroll and Pensions team to support processes that colleagues rely on every day.
Key responsibilities- Support and develop iTrent payroll and rostering systems, ensuring updates are tested and implemented smoothly
- Lead on system improvements, identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy and efficiency
- Carry out UAT testing, analysing results and supporting system change processes
- Produce and maintain Business Objects reports to support payroll validation and decision‑making
- Investigate payroll discrepancies and provide clear, practical solutions
- Work closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT and external partners to keep activity aligned
- Support and mentor colleagues, sharing knowledge and building confidence across the team
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, GDPR and data protection requirements
You have extensive experience managing large, complex payrolls, with end‑to‑end knowledge covering statutory payments, absence, RTI, pensions and new starters. You are proficient with iTrent (including rostering) and have a solid track record of working with Business Objects reporting to support payroll and finance operations.
- Practical experience with iTrent payroll and rostering systems
- Extensive payroll experience, ideally with 2,500+ employees
- Strong knowledge of end‑to‑end payroll processes, including statutory payments, absence, RTI, pensions and new starters
- Experience producing and maintaining Business Object reports
- Proven involvement in payroll system upgrades or implementations, including UAT testing
- Strong analytical skills, capable of investigating and resolving payroll discrepancies
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
- A collaborative and approachable style, ideally with mentoring experience
- Thorough understanding of GDPR, data protection, and payroll legislation
- Exceptional attention to detail and pride in delivering accurate, compliant results
