Job Details

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance to oversee our organization’s financial operations and to guide key strategic decisions. This position will play a critical role in the strategic direction of our financial planning, budget management, and cost-benefit analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and managing our annual audit.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to government agencies, and tax returns.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop financial strategies across all units.
  • Supervise the finance team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee all financial and accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures, and ensure these are followed across all departments.
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the executive leadership.
  • Oversee the preparation and planning of all fiscal reports, tax returns, and statements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports.
  • Implement and manage purchasing strategies to meet budgetary goals.
  • Develop strategies to maximize ROI and meet the company’s financial objectives.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. An MBA or related advanced degree is preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, preferably in the government or nonprofit sector.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
  • Proven experience in financial project management.
  • An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and current financial software.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence – ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
