Job Description

The Community Support Specialist will act as our program's main point of contact for individuals seeking one-on-one Medicare education and counseling. Counseling will be provided in-person, over the phone, or via online video communication, e.g. Zoom. This position will also help the public during Medicare's Open Enrollment at enrollment events within the community.

Job Duties

Provide one‑on‑one Medicare education to the public via in‑person, phone, or web‑based tool. Answer calls into our statewide hot line. Provide office support to ensure program meets program goals, including being available to help walk‑in traffic, help with data management, and other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework/training in social work, human services, public administration, human development, social sciences, psychology, public relations or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to speak/write in Spanish.

Other: This position requires some travel to enrollment events within the city or county during Medicare's open enrollment season. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Able to speak effectively in one‑on‑one conversations, relaying complex information to the public. Must be able to work within a team and collaborate but also be able to work independently. Strong attention to detail. Skilled in researching and understanding complicated information and helping others understand in simpler terms. Comfortable with using a computer including navigating programs and online tools and processes.
