Job DescriptionRARE OPPORTUNITY! Come work for the Office of the Capitol Commission for the State of Nebraska! The Tour Guides at the Nebraska State Capitol interact with visitors from Nebraska, other states and countries. Guides provide information about the history and government of Nebraska; the history, art and architecture of the Capitol, and provide information about tourist attractions in Nebraska. Capitol tour guides provide tours for school students of various grades incorporating curriculum standards. Tour guides staff the information desk to help visitors find their way in the Capitol.
Tour guides staff the office answering the phone to schedule tours and provide information about state government, maintain the tour calendar, and handle tour correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience in public contact OR coursework/training or experience in history, art history, recreation, event planning, or areas related to Nebraska history, geography, or culture.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with students of all ages as an authority figure. Knowledge of art and architecture. Experience in theater or public performance.
Work Schedule40 hours Monday through Friday one week and 40 hours the other week to include the weekend with adjusted weekday schedule.
OtherRegular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic computer skills, word, excel, email. Public speaking skills, the ability to communicate with various age groups in a speaking voice that can be heard by all members of the group. Knowledge of Nebraska, Nebraska history and government.
