Firefighter Trainee

Lincoln Fire & Rescue is looking for motivated individuals to join our team as Firefighters. We welcome applicants who are eager to learn, grow, and build a career in fire and emergency medical services. This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to gain hands-on experience and serve the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

* High school graduate or equivalent.

* Applicants must be at least 19 years old on or before the posted closing date of March 1, 2026.

* Candidates must meet physical requirements as established by the City of Lincoln.

* MUST POSSESS A CURRENT (within the last year of March 1, 2026) IAFF/IAFC CPAT CERTIFICATION.  

* Possession of valid driver's license

* MUST POSSESS A CURRENT NEBRASKA STATE OR NATIONAL REGISTRY EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) AT TIME OF APPLICATION.

* Must obtain the following certifications within 120 days of appointment:

* IFSAC/Pro-Board Firefighter I

* IFSAC/Pro-Board Firefighter II

* IFSAC/Pro-Board Hazardous Materials Operations

* National Registry EMT or Nebraska State EMT License.

ALL APPLICANTS:

* Selected candidates must submit to, and successfully pass a substance abuse test.

* Applicants who successfully meet the requirements will be scheduled for the on-line written exam on Thursday, March 5, 2026.  Detailed test information will be sent by email to qualified applicants after the closing date.
