The Physician Assistant provides health care services to patients under the direction and supervision of a physician. The PA will support orthopaedic surgeons in both clinical and surgical settings.
- Prepare charts, x-rays, and templates for the operating room (OR) and return them to the office.
- Review x-rays, check OR room for instruments, supplies, and implants.
- Position patients on the OR table and assist with surgical procedures (e.g., apply tourniquet, drape patient, hold retractors, manipulate limbs, cauterize vessels, sponge and suction wounds, skin closures).
- Apply dressings, splints, immobilizers, and slings as directed.
- Transfer patients from OR to recovery and assist with room turnover.
- Maintain privately owned instruments and prepare for upcoming surgeries.
- Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical exams.
- Interpret laboratory and diagnostic procedures and order tests as directed.
- Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and take calls for orthopaedic surgeons.
- Evaluate and manage hospitalized patients, including discharge summaries and treatment plans.
- Screen emergency room patients and provide sports team game coverage as needed.
- Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medication, orthoses, braces, and other orthopaedic devices (per state law).
- Participate in research studies, manage databases, and perform quality assurance.
- Assist wherever needed within the team.
- Perform minor procedures such as wound care and joint injections.
- Share in the physician on-call schedule.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Note: Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties as needed.
Qualifications- Orthopaedic solo or group practice experience preferred.
- Must hold a valid state Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license.
- Ability to prioritize and organize daily tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and respond to multiple demands.
- Demonstrates positive interactions with patients, staff, and administration.
- Maintains confidentiality and adheres to clinic policies.
- Team-oriented, polite, and maintains a positive attitude.
