Environmental Health Specialist II -Environmental Public Health Education

This position performs professional environmental health work focused on preventing environmental hazards affecting children, with primary responsibility for the Lead Safe Lincoln Service and additional responsibilities within LLCHD’s Child Care Health Program. Lead Safe Lincoln work includes collaborating with families, property owners, contractors, public health professionals, and community partners to prevent childhood lead poisoning; conducting lead inspections and risk assessments; developing scopes of work;

conducting clearance activities; and assessing homes of children with lead poisoning to identify and address environmental health concerns. The position will identify best practices and evidence-based strategies, provide education and technical assistance, and accurately interpret and apply applicable Federal, State, and local lead requirements. Child Care Health program responsibilities include conducting routine environmental health inspections of permitted childcare centers; evaluating facility conditions and practices for compliance with local health and safety requirements;

documenting findings and corrective actions; conducting follow-up activities; and providing technical assistance and education to childcare operators and staff. The position will contribute to continued improvement of both programs. Seeking an outgoing, team-oriented and customer-focused individual who can build collaborative relationships, work independently in homes and childcare facilities, manage projects and competing priorities, effectively communicate with individuals and groups, interpret environmental health requirements, continuously improve resources, and follow through.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental science, environmental health, environmental engineering, or biological, chemical, physical sciences, public health, public health education, plus 2 years - 4 years’ experience in responsible environmental science work or community health education, or equivalent.

Must have at least 45 quarter credit hours or 30 semester credit hours in the basic sciences. Necessary Special Requirements:
Must be registered as a Provisional Registered Environmental Health Specialist in the State of Nebraska within one (1) month of appointment and must also possess a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license.
