Summary

The BPN Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The BPN Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • * Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  • * Performs routine laboratory tests according to laboratory standards, policies and procedures.
  • * Analyzes test results and enters data into the computer using laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.
  • * Performs and analyzes quality control measures to ensure accurate clinical data.
  • * Maintains competency and proficiency on all laboratory instrumentation and procedures; performs and documents preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as necessary.
  • * Communicates with coworkers, clients and leadership by transmitting appropriate ideas, information and opinions clearly and concisely; maintains employee, patient, client and corporate confidentiality.
  • * Performs general housekeeping tasks to maintain work area order; maintains adequate supplies in the work area.
  • * Participates in cross-training within laboratory divisions.
  • * Assists in training new employees and students.
  • * Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
  • * Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related laboratory science from a two-year accredited college or CLIA- approved Military MLT program required. American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification as an MLT (ASCP) or equivalency preferred.
