Position SummaryABLED is seeking an HR Manager who is excited about helping strengthen ABLED’s people practices and supporting organizational leadership as the organization continues to grow. This is a practical, high-impact role with real opportunity to help shape how ABLED supports, develops, and retains its workforce.
The HR Manager serves as ABLED’s primary HR leader, supporting a workforce of approximately 150 employees and contractors. This role works closely with the CEO and leadership team on employee relations, workplace culture, hiring, and people-related decision making. The position will play an important role in bringing greater structure, consistency, and professionalism to ABLED’s HR practices as the organization continues to grow.
The primary focus of this role is guiding employee relations, supporting leadership in managing staff, and strengthening the organization’s people practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources Leadership & Employee Relations
- Serve as ABLED’s primary HR leader and advisor to leadership on employee relations matters.
- Guide supervisors on performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee development.
- Address employee relations matters including workplace conflict, staff concerns, and performance issues.
- Prepare and review disciplinary documentation including warning letters and termination letters.
- Handle sensitive employee matters with professionalism and discretion.
Hiring & Workforce Development
- Oversee and strengthen ABLED’s hiring processes in collaboration with leadership and the DSP Coordinator.
- Conduct screening interviews for prospective employees.
- Support managers in making hiring decisions and building strong teams.
- Oversee onboarding processes to ensure new employees are successfully integrated into the organization.
HR Policy & Organizational Structure
- Maintain and update HR policies and employee handbook materials.
- Help bring greater structure and consistency to ABLED’s HR practices as the organization continues to grow.
- Provide guidance to administrative team on employee management and workplace expectations.
Leadership Support & Culture
- Work closely with the administrative team to support a healthy workplace culture.
- Help strengthen communication, expectations, and accountability across the workforce.
Administrative HR Coordination
- Coordinate HR documentation related to hiring, disciplinary actions, and personnel records.
- Respond to unemployment claims and employment verification requests.
This position follows a hybrid work structure based in Lincoln, Nebraska. Some in-person presence is expected for employee and contractor meetings, interviews, and collaboration with leadership.
ABLED’s administrative team typically meets in person on Tuesdays at the organization’s original home office location, though remote participation is available when needed. A branch office location — primarily utilized by ABLED’s Clinical Director — is also available for organizational gatherings, staff and contractor meetings, and interview space.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in Human Resources, employee relations, or workforce administration
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive employee matters with professionalism and discretion
- Experience in healthcare, social services, or Medicaid-funded programs preferred
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR) is a plus but not required
$70,000 – $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
